out of your head

Sometimes you forget, or become blinded for awhile.

And then you go for a walk, look at the moon, remember to smile.

And then you remember.

Do you know what I mean?

Absolutely fabulous

The past few days that is.
After much ado, my grandparents and Mom finally came to visit. It was the first time we've all been together in Denver and it was very special indeed.

We visited the cute little town of Georgetown and took the Georgetown Loop Railroad express. This is the perfect visiting family member activity.

I also graduated from college with my nursing degree.

and Mike bought me the perfect present

Which I'm sure I will now focus much too much attention on, especially when now I really need to be doing this.

Highly boring, yet necessary.

Anyway, back to more fun, creative blogs. Now that the fam are flying on planes back home, it's back to reality.
Thanks for playin.

the best present I've ever received.

I got it in the mail from my grandmother. It's a whopping huge binder chock full of details about my family history. It has antecdotes, pictures, stories, facts. It has pictures of my grandfather, whom I've never met and old pictures of my dad that I've never seen! (My father passed away 3 years ago). There has not even been enough time to fully absorb the information in this project. All I know is that this is a gift that has touched me deeply and that I will truly treasure forever.

Have a great day....and don't eat your boogers!

Meet Bryce, Mike's little nephew.
Such a cutie, isn't he?

today's theme: noticing the details

Often the world goes by and I forget to look around, stuck in the tunnel of my own thoughts and opinions. Recently I sat on the porch and just took in the scene around me, realizing how long it had been since I had done this. I'm not one for moving slowly, and sometimes I believe this is a shame. There is so much to be seen in the details. Why is it such a challenge to simply live in the moment, forgetting about goals and deadlines and relaxing into oneself?
Today I'm trying to relax a bit, and just be a part of the life that goes on around me, unnoticed.

What happened to the ugly concrete backyard?

Well at Home Depot we thought it’d be grand
to sledgehammer the backyard by hand.

Once we started we realized the feat
Of disposing of two tons concrete.

A dumpster at last was loaned,
And we filled it but oh how we groaned,
for our muscles were so very mad
at all of the hard work they had.
Still, eventually they forgave,
and we tilled the soil once paved.
Laboriously crawling on knees
searching for rocks and deeply grown weeds.
Then we pieced out the sod with a knife,
and watched our new lawn come to life.

Tada! What a glorious sight,
Now we’re tired ya’ll so good night!

I'm making a lasagna....for one!

If you are familiar with the funny New Zealand act, Flight of the Conchords, then you would get this reference. Last night our favorite musical comedy duo came to Denver! It was such a blast. If you have never heard of these two then you must rent their HBO series on DVD. We enjoyed a lovely dinner here, then went to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House to see the show.
A golden beer
Too bad, so sad
Follow the way!
We have the golden ticket!
Bret and Jemaine, aka the Hipphopopattamus and the Rhymnocerus, rocking the party!

(If you're not familiar with these guys check out this.) (and this!)

a chance to re-create

The spring is fresh,

budding life, green thoughts,

an opportunity for renewal.

Winter has cast its shadow long enough.

Today I would like to be reborn.

today

So today was the most ordinary of days. I got up, exercised, went to the coffee shop and sat down to take my test. I took the test fine, and then, as I hit "submit", the moment became very extraordinary. It became...

the moment I FINISHED NURSING SCHOOL!!!

Wow, such a wierd feeling. I've been working my butt off for 4 years, my type-A personality reached new heights, I've grown used to living with stress and deadlines and things to do. And now....

nothing.

it's gone.

i'm done.

wow.

(of course I still have to sit for my boards but that's a whole different ball of wax. I'm taking this moment and going with it)

I've decided to read a wonderful, completely non-medical book that I can get lost in. Does anyone have any suggestions?

how I came this close to joining Jenny Craig

I won't spare you the details of how it's almost 3 and I've literally been camped out in my office for over 7 hours trying to write this God-forsaken paper that I have been sitting on for about a month. I won't clue you in to the cowlicks in my hair, or the fact that I'm still wearing last night's pajamas. You don't need to know these details. You have much more important things to do.

I should change my blog from queenbloggy to queenprocrastinator. That would be more fitting. I'm awful, anything to get out of doing this task I don't want to do. For instance, the only breaks I have given myself on today's paper is to go to the fridge, or to check my email or blog. So naturally, I've been online wayyyy too much and snacked far more than I should. This always happens.

The point is, it's a good thing I'm about to graduate or else I'd get fat.

In any case, here's a little picture inspired by another Denver blogger/musician/writer/dog lover extraordinaire, John Common. Does anyone else have any little king statues out there?
Now enough of this blogging nonsense...it's gorgeous outside!

A shopping spree!

Oops, I got a little happy on the old credit card. I went on a little Etsy splurge but I have to say, now that my products are here, I have zero regrets.

Here's my loot!
I got a set of 5 card sized prints from seasprayblue. She has some fabulous prints and I do have a plan for them. You'll see....
I got a lovely print entitled, New Growth, from Groundwork. Good stuff; I really like her style.
(This is my favorite of all). I got this print and this print from my new favorite artist, The Black Apple. This girl is right on! Check out her blog...you're going to fall in love with her!
And of course what Etsy shopping spree would be complete without a set of Camille Engman prints (seen here). But you guys already know that!

I have to say that I have never been so happy in my mail order purchases. I'm calling this a little graduation to myself (I'm graduating from nursing school in 2 weeks!). So I think I deserve it. That's what I'm telling myself when I get my credit card statement anyway....
